This project required producing a full-length kinetic typography video using an unedited music track between 3 and 6 minutes in length. The design restrictions emphasized typography-only visuals, with no images or illustrations allowed. Animation had to extend through both lyrics and instrumental sections, reflecting the audio visually without relying on pre-set defaults. Only two typefaces were permitted, chosen from a defined list of professional fonts, with allowances for multilingual text if required. Storyboards were developed on 11" × 17" portrait sheets, mounted to a 15" × 20" black illustration board with matte paper and vellum, with frames labeled every 3 seconds and accompanied by time-coded descriptions.
The project began with research into kinetic typography, focusing on how text could embody rhythm, emphasis, and tone in a music video format. After selecting a track that met the project’s time and content requirements, the lyrics and instrumental breaks were mapped into storyboard panels. Each frame was drawn on 11" × 17" stationery, labeled in 3-second intervals, and described with time coding to clarify pacing and transitions.
During production, two fonts were selected from the approved list and used consistently to maintain cohesion. Typography was animated in After Effects, with keyframes tailored to align with lyrical delivery and instrumentals. Pre-set effects were only used as starting points, then modified and layered to create unique motion. Care was taken to incorporate easing, rhythm-driven scaling, and spatial transitions, ensuring the visuals carried the same intensity and variation as the music.
The final render, completed at 1920 × 1080 and 30 fps, ran the full 00:03:41:01 track without edits, presenting a seamless typographic interpretation of the song. The process highlighted how typography alone can convey energy, rhythm, and narrative when animated with precision and intent.
